From the phone call to court

Most criminal matters go through the same four stages. You'll know what each one costs before it starts.

  1. The phone call

Tell me what you've been charged with and when you're due in court. It's free, takes about 15 minutes, and you'll know what happens next.

  2. Reading the police brief

I get the police facts and evidence, go through them with you, and tell you plainly how strong the case against you looks.

  3. A plan and a fixed fee

We decide together whether to plead guilty or defend the charge. The fee for that plan comes to you in writing before I appear.

  4. Court

I appear for you at every mention and hearing, and talk you through each one beforehand so you know what to expect.

Charges I defend

Six kinds of matter make up most of my work, in the Magistrates and District Courts.

  • Light trails from cars on a dark road at night

    Drink and drug driving

Driving over the limit or with a drug in your system, and applying for a work licence so you can keep your job.

    From $1,100

  • A woman in a grey coat carrying folders down the steps of a court building

    Bail

Getting you out of the watch house, or changing bail conditions that make work or family life impossible.

    From $900

  • A lawyer's hand signing a document at a wooden desk

    Drug charges

Possession, supply and production charges, including drug diversion for first offenders who are eligible.

    From $1,400

  • Sunlight and shadow falling across wide stone steps

    Assault and wilful damage

Common assault, assault occasioning bodily harm and wilful damage, whether you plead guilty or defend it.

    From $1,800

  • Two people going over a printed form at a white table

    Domestic violence orders

Responding to an application for a protection order, and defending a charge of breaching one.

    From $1,500

  • Rows of pale sandstone steps seen from above

    Appeals

Appealing a conviction or a sentence from the Magistrates Court to the District Court.

Clients on the process

  • I'd never been in trouble before and I was terrified. Taylor explained every step, and I knew what the magistrate would ask before I walked in.

About Taylor

I'd rather run 25 matters properly than 100 in a hurry.

Questions people ask first

The police want to interview me. What should I do?

In Queensland you can ask to speak to a lawyer before a police interview, and police must tell you that. Call me before you answer questions, after hours too.

What does the first call cost?

Nothing. It takes about 15 minutes. If you need more advice than that, I'll quote it first.

Do I have to go to court myself?

Often, yes. For some matters I can appear without you. I'll tell you which applies to yours on the first call.

Can I get a work licence after a drink driving charge?

Sometimes. It depends on the reading, your licence and your job. I'll check whether you're eligible on the first call.

Do you take legal aid matters?

No. If you might qualify for legal aid, I'll tell you and point you to Legal Aid Queensland.

Been charged? Call today.

On weekdays I return every call the same day. After hours, the arrest line goes to my mobile.
