Your will, done properly, in two meetings

I'm Jamie Sample. I write wills and powers of attorney for families in Brisbane's inner west, and help executors when the time comes.

  • Fixed fees, agreed before we start
  • Home visits for anyone who can't come in

Where are you starting from?

Most people come to me from one of these three places.

  1. Planning ahead

A will, an enduring power of attorney and an advance health directive, usually in two meetings.

    From $690

  2. Someone has died

What has to happen first, who can act, and whether the estate will need probate.

    First meeting free

  3. You're the executor

Applying for probate, collecting assets, paying debts and handing over what's left.

    From $2,400

Fees

Every fee is agreed in writing before any work starts. Probate depends on the estate, so it starts from a set price.

About Jamie

Most people put off their will because they expect it to be hard. It rarely is.

I spent twelve years in the estates team of a city firm before opening this practice in Ashgrove in 2016. I see every client myself, write every document myself, and keep each will in the safe custody room at no charge.

How a will gets done

Two meetings and a signing, usually within three weeks.

  1. First meeting

We talk through your family, what you own and what you'd like to happen. It takes about an hour.

  2. A draft to read

Within a week you get the draft by email or post, written in plain English, to read at home.

  3. Signing

We meet again to make any changes and sign, with witnesses in the office. The original stays in safe custody free of charge.

Common questions

Can I just use a will kit?

You can, but kits often go wrong on witnessing and on blended families. The fee covers getting both right.

What should I bring to the first meeting?

A list of what you own and owe, the names of the people you want to include, and any old will.

Do you come to the house?

Yes, for anyone who can't easily come in, including in hospitals and aged care, for $120 within ten kilometres.

Where is my will kept?

In our safe custody room, free of charge. You get a signed copy to keep.

How long does probate take?

For a simple estate, usually two to three months from the application.

Make a time to get it sorted

Book a first meeting online, or call and I'll find a time that suits, including Thursday evenings.
