How I work

Most separations don't need a courtroom. They need someone calm who lays out the options, then gets the paperwork right.

Jordan Sample

Family lawyer, admitted in Queensland in 2009

I spent eleven years at a mid-sized Brisbane family law practice before starting my own in 2020. I keep my caseload small so calls are returned the same day, and I'll say so plainly when something isn't worth fighting over.

Areas of work

Each one starts with the same 45-minute meeting, so you know the options and the likely cost before deciding anything.

Where you stand on the children, the house and the money.

    $220

Dividing the home, super and savings, by agreement or through the court.

From clients

  • We'd been arguing about the house for a year. Jordan got us to an agreement in two meetings and the orders were made without either of us going to court.

Before you call

Can we sort it out without lawyers?

Sometimes, yes. Even then, one 45-minute meeting before you sign anything can save a costly mistake.

What happens in the first meeting?

You tell me what's happened, I explain your options and what each would cost, and you leave with a written summary. It takes 45 minutes and costs $220.

Will this end up in court?

Most of my matters settle by agreement. Court is the last step, and I'll tell you early if I think yours is heading there.

Can you act for both of us?

No. A lawyer can only act for one side in a separation. Your former partner will need their own.

How do I pay?

Fixed fees are paid in two parts: half when we start and half when the work is done. Payment plans are possible for property matters.
